There’s a big stigma behind CBD Oil (cannabidiol), but it can be a useful addition to any functional medicine practitioner’s toolbox… people just don’t know a lot about it.
Today, Dr. Stephen Cabral, a naturopathic, ayurvedic & functional medicine doctor, joins the show to address the stigma, teach us what CBD oil is (and isn’t), and explain why it’s valuable to functional medicine practitioners.
CBD vs THC
CBD oil and THC are both active ingredients in cannabis or hemp. However, by themselves, they have very different effects.
- THC is the chemical in cannabis that gives people a euphoric high.
- CBD oil is non-psychoactive plant extract (meaning it has less than 0.5% THC in it and doesn’t give people a high) that can help people with anxiety, OCD, panic attacks, social anxiety, depression and PTSD.
Although the stigma around CBD oil persists, it is legal for purchase and use in all 50 states, and additional benefits are being studied every year (even big pharma is trying to get into the market).
Dr. Cabral discusses his own experiment with CBD oil and goes deeper into the science behind its calming effects in his podcast, The Cabral Concept.
