We discuss the role of both vitamin D and vitamin A, as well as how food fortification and misinformation has contributed to our increasingly diseased population. Additionally, why certain diets, like the carnivore diet, seem to work so well for some people based on his Vitamin A toxicity hypothesis.
Vitamin A, Vitamin A Toxicity, & Vitamin D
Vitamin A and Vitamin D are both fat-soluble vitamins and hormones — and these two are like a double-edged sword. You need the right amount of them in your body, but too much or too little can both lead to health consequences.
A and D have a wide range of key functions in our bodies, yet both are over supplemented. On top of that, these deficiencies are usually treated with cheap supplements, which can cause other issues like toxicity.
Hypervitaminosis A (Vitamin A toxicity) can lead to liver damage and Vitamin D toxicity is a buildup of calcium in your blood (hypercalcemia).
Sadly, this issue is often overlooked and misunderstood by mainstream docs. But, after diving into the research of Grant Genereux, Dr. Garrett started to realize that Vitamin A toxicity was rampant in his patients — and one of the big things contributing to it was Vitamin D deficiencies!
And this long-term chronic Vitamin A toxicity can lead to a whole host of fairly common symptoms (source: healthline.com):
We also expose ourselves to a number of things that can lead to vitamin A toxicity. The most common are supplements, especially cheap supplements. But some skincare products out there are just straight-up poison, especially those containing Accutane or Retin-A. You should also avoid large amounts of beta-carotene, which is the inactive form of vitamin A; synthetic vitamin E, which is found in some e-cigarette cartridges; and eating large quantities of animal liver.
