What is your “WHY”?

February 7th, 2010, the day my why became a reality and a way of life… I had my annual physical my PCP told me I had Metabolic Syndrome!! This is the very disease that took my Father’s life at the early age of 64!!  Next, he broke out his prescription pad and wrote 4 Rx for one for High Blood Pressure, one for type 2 diabetes, a statin for Cholesterol and the last one for my Liver enzymes (ALT & AST). He hands them to me explaining how to use each one… I looked at them in my hand, I looked at him and I walked over to the trash can in the exam room and proceeded to throw them in the trash!!! Imagine the look on his face!!! 

Before I go further let me explain what Metabolic syndrome is: It is a cluster of conditions — increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels — that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Today February 7th, 2018 11 years later… I am at 185 lbs, and in the best shape of my life at 58 years old!! How did I get here? I made my “WHY” big enough to make the changes necessary!! I joined Knuckle-up fitness and started kickboxing, I sucked at it I barely made it through the first class but I continued to show up. Next, I am smart enough to know if you don’t know how to do something you hire someone to help you, so I hired a trainer and a health coach.  Then I began to see changes, I had more energy, I was able to make it through a full kickboxing class and my clothes were falling off!! 

What I am saying here is my “WHY” was big enough!!  I then decided to pursue this field of Health Coaching so I went to IIN the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2014 but that just gave me a taste for more, I wanted to know why? Changing eating habits is easy, I wanted to know how our bodies function on a cellular level? What is going on inside our bodies? What is causing disease? So I started looking into Functional Medicine Schools, I found the School of Applied Functional Medicine which I love and passed my Functional Medicine Boards in July of 2017. I am now enrolled for another year of learning, I missed my calling as a Physician!! 

My mission is to give you the unique opportunity to enhance your internal spirit and promote a healthy lifestyle through quality nourishment and holistic health choices. I want to help you achieve your “WHY”!!
